IDA ARENIUS
Ida is a freelancer in the field of dance and choreography based in Stockholm. From 2017, she holds a BA in Dance Performance from Stockholm University of the Arts. Ida works both as a performer and dance-maker and her work is focused on sensorial, interactive and communicative methods. Ida targets her works for children and youth with neurodiversities.
Ida mirrors soft values, collective practices, feminist theories and sustainability in her projects. Her motto is ”Art is for everyone”, and she strives for that by holding workshops, lectures and developing her multi- sensory choreographic concept ”LEK SAK”.
LEK SAK
is interactive and multi- sensorial art experience targeted for children and youth with neurodiversities. This project runs both as a workshop and performance. Concept of LEK SAK is created by Ida Arenius and the choreography by Ida, Sara Kauppila and Tiia Kasurinen.
LEK SAK is intended for children and youth who intake art through sensing, exploring, mimicking, listening, smelling and watching. The concept is built for those who experience the surrounding environment in a non- normative way. Performers invite the participants to explore LEK SAK space through their conditions and interests. Everybody in the space creates a common choreography and investigates their way to spend time in the room.
One of projects co-working partners, Autism and Asperger foundation in Helsinki describes the project as following: ”For people, especially for children with autism spectrum diagnose there is very little opportunities to experience art. LEK SAK- project’s strength is that everybody can participate, or not participate at their way without constantly trying to adapt to the social norms. LEK SAK is unique culture event for this target group.”
Ida Arenius is a professional dancer and dance maker with over eight year experience from work with children and youth with difabilities in school environment. At the moment Ida is working in Rösjöskolan Sollentuna as a specialpedagog and running LEK SAK project weekly.
In the beginning of 2020 over 200 children has participated in the project in Finland and Sweden.
One special education teacher described (after experiencing LEK SAK together with her class) that:” This is the best thing that has happened for us in a long, long, long time”.
The project is supported by Autism- and Asperger foundation in Helsinki, PAUT, Annantalo, Nordic Culture Point and Alfred Kordelin Foundation.
